Contemplation at sunrise: I wake early, and wrap myself around the quiet minutes, sometimes hours, alone. I find warmth and security in the pre-dawn light. As I pull each stitch through the paper, tying shapes and patterns together, I recount the stitches of my mother's cross-stitch and the delicately crocheted doilies of her grandmother. I think of their strength and determination with each mark made and thread carefully pulled and find a quiet peace in the moment shared alone with them at the dawn of a new day.
